A few quick checks before you file

Have these four things sorted and your 2290 goes through clean:

• EIN ready? You need one (not an SSN), and a new EIN takes ~15 business days to activate. More on EINs
• Know your weight category? Taxable gross weight, usually near 80,000 lb for combinations. How weight works
• First-use month? This sets your deadline and your prorated tax. Deadline rules
• VIN double-checked? One wrong character means a correction later. VIN corrections
